Type
For pike trolling, we will most often use large jerkbaits. But a good trolling spoon can also work. Just make sure your jerkbait will run at the appropriate depth for the area you are fishing in. Usually, you will want to zig-zag your boat as you troll your lure out to get the fish to bite.
Color
The colors that work best for almost any kind of fish will be a color that mimic what they are already eating in the waters you are fishing. Perch colored lures are generally a great option. Otherwise bright colors and flashing colors can work well also.
Action
When trolling you want to make sure your lure depth is designed to reach the level in the water column that the pike are in. Depending on the area the pike could be in as shallow as four feet of water, to upwards of 15 feet of water. So make sure your setup is made to reach this level or you might not get much action
