How To Choose a Fishing Rod for Casting Carolina Rigs
If you’re looking to add a dedicated Carolina rig rod to your collection there are a few different things you want to consider
- Type
- Rod Power
- Action
- Length
Type
When you are fishing a Carolina rig setup you will get the best performance from a baitcasting rod and reel.
Power
We recommend a medium-heavy power rod. The power of a rod refers to the amount of pressure required to make the rod bend. Medium-heavy is kind of in the middle, where it takes a bit of pressure but not as much as a heavy rod. This will allow you to fish your rig optimally.
Action
For fishing c-rigs, you will want a fast action rod. This means that the rod bends more towards the tip (slower action rods bend towards the middle of the rod). Having a fast action rod will allow you to drag your rig across the bottom more easily.
Length
The length is also an important part of fishing c-rigs. Usually, you want something over 7′. Longer rods allow you to make longer casts and will help the sweeping hooksets you need to properly work your rig. If you know the area you are fishing requires really short casts you can go with something shorter though.
