Northern Outdoors

Northern Outdoors pioneered whitewater rafting in trips in New England over thirty years ago. Since those early days we now offer a year-round selection of outdoor adventures from three adventure resorts located close to the rivers we run.

Based in The Forks, Maine, Northern Outdoors caters to seasoned outdoor experts, first-time adventurers, and family explorers. Northern Outdoors’ most popular attractions include guided whitewater rafting trips on the Kennebec, Penobscot and Dead rivers, winter snowmobiling through Maine’s spectacular northern forest, autumn fishing and hunting trips, and diverse rock climbing and adventure challenge team-building experiences.

Kudos to Northern Outdoors… was the highlight of our Maine vacation!

Northern Outdoors’ extensive selection of comfortable        accommodations ranges from deluxe lakeside cabins to spacious riverside camps.  Among the numerous amenities are a full-menu brewpub featuring a towering stone fireplace, a comfortable lounge, and a spacious outdoor deck complete with a swimming pool and a giant hot tub. Company president, Russell Walters noted “The rivers in this part of Western Maine provide some of the finest rafting east of the Mississippi. Our beautiful eastern wilderness, consistent dam controlled whitewater, and experienced guides combine to give our visitors a whitewater rafting adventure that’s as good as can be found anywhere.”

With so much to offer, guests shouldn’t be confused about the best time to raft. Finding the right social experience is easy.  Adventure seekers who enjoy an adult getaway and a lively party atmosphere will enjoy visits during July and August, with live music and professional DJ’s scheduled every weekend at The Forks Resort Center.  For those looking for family adventure or craving a little peace and quiet, mid week as well as early and late season visits offer smaller crowds and a more relaxed atmosphere.

Located within a half-day’s drive of anywhere in New England, The Forks easy accessibility means less time in the car and more time enjoying all the outdoor adventure Maine has to offer.
